Teacher Terms

These terms are the agreement between you, a teacher applying for or holding a listing, and The Online Teacher Directory. By submitting the sign-up form you accept them.
1. Who we are and who you are
The Online Teacher Directory (theonlineteacherdirectory.com) is run by eTEFL Online Teacher Training OÜ, registered in Estonia under registry code 17010304, at Lõõtsa tn 5 // Sepapaja tn 4, 11415 Tallinn, Estonia. Contact: hello@theonlineteacherdirectory.com.
By applying, you confirm that:
- you are 18 or over;
- you are listing your own teaching services, in the course of your business or profession and not as a consumer;
- everything you give us is true, is yours to give, and will be kept up to date.
2. What the Directory is
The Directory is an advertising and listing service. Students browse and filter listings, then book directly with the teacher through the teacher’s own calendar link.
We do not arrange, take part in, or take payment for lessons. There is no on-site booking. If you switch on the contact form on your listing, a student can send you a first message through it, and you reply from your own email address. Any agreement about lessons is between you and your student alone.
You are an independent teacher. Nothing in these terms makes you our employee, agent or partner.
We do not promise any number of views, enquiries, students or bookings.
3. Applying for a listing
Every application is reviewed by a person before it goes live. We may approve it, ask for changes, or decline it. Nothing is published until we approve it.
A listing must:
- be for teaching English online;
- include a photo of you and an intro video hosted on YouTube or Vimeo;
- show an hourly rate in euros of at least 10 EUR;
- include a working way for students to reach you: your calendar link, the contact form on your listing, or both;
- name your main teaching certificate and its issuer, with a copy uploaded.
One listing per teacher. Listings for schools, agencies or other people are not accepted.
4. Plans
There are three plans. You choose one on the sign-up form.

Graduates of eTEFL Online Teacher Training pay no checking fee, and pay 9.90 EUR a month or 99 EUR a year for Featured. Graduate prices are available only through the graduate sign-up page and only once we have confirmed your certificate number.
5. Verification
Verification is offered only for certificates on our accepted list, which you can read before you apply. If your certificate is not on the list, we take no payment. You can still have a Basic listing, and you can ask us to consider your course for the list.
The check confirms that your certificate is on the accepted list, is genuine, and was issued to you. To do this we may contact the issuer or use its checking service.
The 4.90 EUR fee pays for the check itself. It is not refundable, including where we cannot confirm your certificate. If we cannot confirm it, your listing goes live as Basic.
The badge is our statement that we have checked the named certificate. It is not an endorsement of your teaching, and you must not describe it as one.
If you want the badge to show a different certificate, send us the new one for review. Your current badge stays as it is until we have reviewed the new certificate. You cannot edit the badge yourself.
We may remove the badge if a certificate turns out not to be genuine, is withdrawn by its issuer, or was not issued to you. A later change to the accepted list does not affect a badge already granted.
Additional certificates are optional. We review them by sight only, and show approved ones on Verified and Featured listings.
6. Featured
Featured is a subscription, billed monthly or yearly in advance. It renews automatically for the same period until you cancel.
You pay at the end of the sign-up form. Your Featured period starts on the day we approve your listing, not on the day you pay.
If we cannot confirm your certificate, we cancel the subscription, refund everything you paid except 4.90 EUR, and your listing goes live as Basic.
Priority placement means Featured listings appear above Verified and Basic listings in any search they match, with a highlighted listing.
Promotional campaigns promote the Directory and show a selection of current Featured teachers. Campaigns run from time to time, not on a fixed schedule. We do not promise that a campaign will run in any particular month, that you will appear in any particular campaign, or that a campaign will bring you any number of views or bookings. Featured does not include an advert for you alone.
While you are Featured, you allow us to use your name, photo, intro video and listing details in those campaigns, on our own channels and on advertising platforms.
7. Prices and payment
All prices are in euros and are the full amount you pay. We do not currently add VAT.
Payments are taken by Stripe and appear on your statement as eTEFL Online. We never see or store your full card number.
If a renewal payment fails, Stripe tries it again. If it still fails, Featured ends and your listing continues as Verified.
If we change the Featured price, we email you at least 30 days before. The new price applies from your next renewal, and you can cancel before then.
8. Cancelling Featured
To cancel, email hello@theonlineteacherdirectory.com from the email address on your listing. You can cancel at any time.
- Featured runs to the end of the month or year you have already paid for, and then stops. It does not renew.
- There is no refund for the unused part of a month or year.
- Afterwards your listing continues as Verified, at no further cost.
Please email at least 3 working days before your renewal date. If we received your cancellation in time and a renewal is still charged, we refund that renewal in full.
9. How listings are ranked
Search results show only the listings that match the student’s search and filters. Among those, listings appear in this order:
- Featured listings
- Verified listings
- Basic listings
Featured is the only way payment affects ranking. Within each of the three groups, order does not depend on any payment.
Students can also choose to see only Verified or only Featured listings.
10. Your content and your responsibilities
Your listing content stays yours. You give us permission to display it on the Directory for as long as your listing exists, free of charge.
You are responsible for making sure that:
- your photo and video show you, and you have the right to use everything in them;
- your listing is accurate, lawful and not misleading;
- the hourly rate shown is a rate students can actually book at;
- your calendar link and video keep working.
You are also responsible for your lessons, for your students’ personal data, for your own taxes and registrations, and for following any law that applies to teaching children.
Messages students send you through your contact form are for answering that enquiry. You must not use a student’s details for anything else, or pass them to anyone else, without the student’s agreement.
You must not say or suggest that you work for us or are endorsed by us.
11. Your teacher account
You sign in to your teacher account with a link sent to your email address. There you can edit your photo, video, description, accent, teaching focus, levels, rate and calendar link, and choose which contact options your listing shows. Edits go live at once.
We keep a log of edits. We may undo or remove an edit that breaks these terms. The rate can never be set below 10 EUR.
You can see your own listing details and the figures we show for your listing. Messages sent through your contact form appear in your account for 30 days and are then deleted. Apart from those, we do not hold, and cannot give you, information about individual visitors or students.
12. Removing your listing
You can leave at any time. Email hello@theonlineteacherdirectory.com from the email address on your listing and we remove it within 7 days.
Removing a Featured listing ends Featured. There is no refund for the unused part of a month or year.
Our Privacy Policy explains when your details and certificate copies are then deleted.
13. When we may restrict, suspend or remove a listing
We may hide, restrict or remove a listing, or remove its badge or Featured status, if:
- information in it is false or misleading;
- a certificate is not genuine or was not issued to you;
- it breaks section 3 or section 10 and is not put right within 7 days of our asking;
- it contains unlawful content or infringes someone else’s rights;
- we receive a serious complaint about your conduct towards students that we find to be well founded;
- a payment you owe us is reversed or not paid.
We email you our reasons when we act, or before. You can reply with your side, and a person will look at it again.
If we decide to end your listing altogether, we give you at least 30 days’ notice with our reasons. We may act sooner where the law requires it, where you have broken these terms repeatedly, or in serious cases such as fraud or unlawful content.
If we end a Featured listing and you have not broken these terms, we refund the unused part of the period you paid for. If we ever close the Directory, we give 30 days’ notice and make the same refund.
14. Our liability
We run the Directory with reasonable care, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of faults.
We are not responsible for:
- lessons, students, or anything agreed between you and a student;
- lost income, lost bookings or lost opportunity;
- services run by others, including Stripe, YouTube, Vimeo and your calendar tool.
Our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to the amount you paid us in those 12 months, or 100 EUR if that is more.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for deliberate wrongdoing or gross negligence, or any liability the law does not allow us to limit.
If someone brings a claim against us because of your listing content or your lessons, you agree to cover our reasonable losses from that claim.
15. Changes to these terms
We email you at least 15 days before a change to these terms takes effect. If you do not accept the change, you can remove your listing before that date. Staying listed after it means you accept the new terms.
We may make a change sooner only where the law requires it or to deal with an urgent security or fraud risk.
16. Complaints, law and courts
If something is wrong, email hello@theonlineteacherdirectory.com. A person reads every complaint and we aim to reply within 14 days.
These terms are governed by Estonian law. Disputes that we cannot settle between us go to Harju County Court in Tallinn, Estonia.
These terms, our Privacy Policy and the accepted certificates list together make up the whole agreement between us. If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
